Felix Auger Aliassime rallied from one set down to beat Argentine Francisco Comesana 6-7 (2-7) 6-3 6-3 at the Paris Rolex Masters at the Defense Arena keeping alive his hopes of qualifying for the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin. The Canadian player moved to within 440 points of eighth placed Lorenzo Musetti.
Auger Aliassime won the ATP 250 title in Brussels, but he was forced to withdraw from the quarter final match in Basel.
Auger Aliassime will need a deep run in Paris to qualify for Turin.
Auger Aliassime was not able to convert a break point at 2-2. Comesana earned a double break point when Auger Aliassime made three consecutive unforced errors. The Argentine broke serve in the sixth game to take a 4-2 lead when Auger Aliassime double faulted on the second break point.
Auger Aliassime broke back in the ninth game, when Comesana was serving for the set at 5-3. The Canadian player took afvantage of a few errors from Comesana to pull back on serve. Comesana earned two mini-breaks, wheun Auger Aliassime made two unforced errors on his first two service points to race out to a 4-0 lead. Auger Aliassime pulled one mini-break back for 1-4. Comesana earned his third mini-break to seal the tie-break 7-3.
Auger Aliassime won his first 14 points on serve and earned his first break in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead. The Canadian player missed a set point on Comesana’s serve in the eighth game, but he served out at love in the ninth game.
Comesana earned two break points in the second game of the third game, but Auger Aliassime saved it with a big forehand to save the first break point. The Canadian player saved the second chance with a smash. Comesana broke back in the sixth game to draw level to 3-3. Auger Aliassime earned another break in the seventh game to take a 4-3 lead, when Comesana hit a forehand wide.
Auger Aliassime won the final three games and sealed the win with a break on his second match point in the nunth game.
