Félix Auger-Aliassime’s run at the 2025 Paris Masters ended on a bittersweet note as the Canadian announced his withdrawal from the upcoming Moselle Open in Metz. The decision, made just days after his runner-up finish in Paris, could cost him a coveted spot at the ATP Finals in Turin.
Despite sitting on the edge of qualification after one of his best performances of the season, Auger-Aliassime chose to prioritize his health over the chance to fight for extra ranking points.
Paris Masters Run Highlights Félix Auger-Aliassime’s Return to Form
Entering the tournament as the ninth seed, the 25-year-old strung together one of the most consistent weeks of his 2025 campaign. He opened with a three-set win over Francisco Comesana before dispatching Alexandre Müller, Daniel Altmaier and Valentin Vacherot to book a place in the semifinals.
In the last four, he defeated Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik in straight sets 7-6(3), 6-4 to reach his second career Masters 1000 final. That victory lifted him to eighth place in the ATP Live Race to Turin standings with 3,845 points, placing him within reach of the season-ending championships.
In the championship match, Auger-Aliassime faced Italy’s Jannik Sinner, who was in top form and ultimately prevailed 6-4, 7-6(4). Despite the defeat, the Canadian’s campaign in Paris stood out, especially given his lingering physical struggles earlier in the year. However, it was those same fitness concerns that prompted his difficult decision to withdraw from Metz.
What Reasons Did Auger-Aliassime Give for Pulling Out of the Moselle Open?
Speaking to reporters in Paris, Auger-Aliassime admitted that his body needed rest after a taxing week. “I won’t be going,” he said when asked about his participation in Metz. “I’ve been struggling with a lot of physical issues this week. I’m not going to make the same mistakes I made in the past. My physical condition and health are really my priority, above qualifying.”
The withdrawal leaves the door open for Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti, currently ninth in the Race to Turin with 3,685 points, to potentially overtake him. Musetti is slated to compete at the ATP 250 event in Athens, where a title win would be enough to surpass Auger-Aliassime and claim the final qualifying spot.
