Felix Auger Aliassime equals Canadian tennis record after winning the Brussels Open title

Felix Auger-Aliassime captured his third ATP Tour title of the season on Sunday, defeating Jiri Lehecka to win the Brussels Open.

Auger-Aliassime has been on a good run of form in recent months, reaching his first Grand Slam semi-final for four years at the US Open and matching one of Carlos Alcaraz’s achievements in Brussels.

The Canadian is one of the most talented players on the ATP Tour, but has so far been unable to realise his potential.

However, when considering his recent form, he could be about to challenge Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in 2026.

Auger-Aliassime’s latest triumph has cemented his place as the pride of Canadian men’s tennis, as he matched a record held by another Canadian icon.

Felix Auger-Aliassime matches Milos Raonic’s Canadian Open Era record

On Sunday, Felix Auger-Aliassime won a close-fought contest against Czechia’s Jiri Lehecka to win the Brussels Open title.

His 7-6, 6-7, 6-2 victory over Lehecka matched a Canadian Open Era record held by Milos Raonic, who has reached a career-high ranking of world number three.

As reported by tennis blogger and journalist Mario Boccardi, Auger-Aliassime has now won eight ATP Tour titles, matching Milos Raonic’s record for the most won by a Canadian player in the Open Era.

The Canadian has become somewhat of an indoor hard-court specialist: seven of his eight ATP Tour titles have come on the surface.

His only non-indoor title came in Adelaide earlier this year, where he defeated Sebastian Korda 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 in the final.

Auger-Aliassime and Raonic’s Olympic partnership

At the 2024 Olympic Games, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Milos Raonic teamed up for the men’s doubles competition.

Unfortunately for Canadian fans, they were knocked out in the first round, losing 7-6, 7-6 to eventual bronze medallists Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul.
