Emma Raducanu responds when asked if Simona Halep could be her next coach

Emma Raducanu has now issued a coaching update, less than a week after her split with Francisco Roig.

It was a decision that the British number one had not taken lightly, likely well aware of the backlash such a decision would provoke.

However, she was clearly not happy with the changes being made to her game, as she spoke about after her disappointing early exit from the Australian Open.

Emma Raducanu did not hold back, and her blatant dismissal of Roig’s technical tweaks effectively confirmed the end of their working relationship before she posted the official wording on Instagram.

No im British and how dare you talk to me like that. What the heck is a Karen anyway?? You are one of those obsessed Radacanu fans, people are starting too see right through Radacanu, just read the comments. I know the truth hurts but, that’s the way it goes. Why dont you stop obsessing over a young girl and stop embarrassing yourself.

That being said, after her first two victories in Romania, she has now emerged to deliver an update on her search for a new coach, whilst also discussing the possibility of welcoming Simona Halep into her corner.

Emma Raducanu delivers coaching update after splitting with Francisco Roig

The legendary Romanian tennis star, who won two Grand Slam titles during her impressive career, has been ever-present throughout this week at the Transylvania Open.

And, Raducanu has been vocal in her praise for the 34-year-old, clearly sparking rumours around the grounds which were addressed in her latest press conference.

Who should be Emma Raducanu’s next coach?

Emma Raducanu of Great Britain reacts after losing a point against Anastasia Potapova of Austria in the Women's Singles Second Round during day four of the 2026 Australian Open at Melbourne Park on January 21, 2026 in Melbourne, Australia.

No legitimate coach is likely to fall into her trap at this point. We can argue her issues and talents, but no one can argue she has wasted her most important developing years in tennis by ignoring coaches who were “always telling me what to do”. I mean, dude!!

I think she can be great like anyone else. But I don’t think she has the discipline other players have, she does her best but in this sport the best is not enough if you really want to win, but if her goal is to stay in top 30 than she is doing more than fine. She did win a grand slam and that’s something to be proud but honestly with her mindset and injurie

The 2021 US Open champion was asked whether Halep could be a potential new coach, to which she responded: “I think she has better things to be doing than coaching on the Tour!

“I have not really thought about my next steps. Right now, I am just thinking to what has been working well this week.

“Alexis is a great guy, he has been helping a lot this week and we have just been getting our heads down and working.”

Raducanu split with Roig late last week, but seems focused on her current task in Romania rather than endlessly searching for her next coach.

Emma Raducanu discusses the Romanian support

Raducanu’s heritage has earned her support all over the globe, given how rich and diverse it remains.

Born in Ontario, Canada, the 22-year-old was raised in England to her Romanian father Ion Răducanu and Chinese mother Renee Zhai.

As such, the fans in Transylvania have happily adopted her as one of their own over the last few days, cheering her two wins thus far and particularly enjoying Raducanu’s ‘rusty’ Romanian in her post-match speeches.

Speaking about that support in that same press conference, she admitted: “They helped me so much, especially at 5-0 down. Hearing them support at 5-0, you want to try and get every game you can and try and make the score look a bit better and give them a bit more tennis to watch.

“Then you get into it, and you get a bit more momentum and they are cheering louder and you are getting more fired up. I think momentum is a big thing in tennis but the crowd definitely helped. Even at 5-5 in the first set, serving to hold, there are just so many different situations and I’m really happy that I have this support. It makes me feel so good.”
