The Canadian has an opportunity to qualify for the ATP Finals with good performances in Basel and the Paris Masters.
With his win over Cilic at the Swiss Indoors, Auger-Aliassime has achieved something for the first time in 15 months.
Felix Auger-Aliassime breaks 15-month streak in Basel
Auger-Aliassime is less than 400 points behind Lorenzo Musetti, who occupies the final qualifying place for the ATP Finals.
With his win quarter-final appearance in Basel, the Canadian has now booked his return back to the top 10 of the ATP Tour.
Auger-Aliassime has overtaken Jack Draper and Holger Rune, both of whom are out with an injury, to become the World No. 10.
The Canadian has not been a top 10 player for 15 months before his return in Basel, having last occupied the position in May 2023.
Auger-Aliassime has two tournaments left to try and crack into the top eight, but he certainly has momentum on his side.

Lorenzo Musetti, Casper Ruud, and Auger-Aliassime fight it out for ATP Finals qualification
After Daniil Medvedev’s loss to Corentin Moutet at the Vienna Open, ATP Finals qualification looks to be down to three men.
Current World No. 8 Musetti is still going strong at the Vienna Open, where he will play Moutet in the quarter-final.
Casper Ruud, who is in a similar vein of blistering form to Auger-Aliassime, is playing Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the last eight of the Swiss Indoors after winning the Stockholm Open.
If the trio continues to perform well at their respective tournaments, qualification could come down to the wire at the Paris Masters.
