While the end of her career was marred by controversy and injury, she will have an opportunity to get back to competing in an exhibition event against the current world number eight Elina Svitolina on June 13, 2026.

It will be a chance to celebrate and look back on the marvellous career that Halep played out at the top of tennis. Both final matches ended in defeat but she did eventually get over the line for her maiden major triumph at the 2018 tournament, making up for losing at the final hurdle of the Australian Open at the start of 2018.
By this time she had already cemented herself as one of the best tennis players in the world, debuting at world number one on October 9, 2017. Aside from a four-week spell where Caroline Wozniacki was top of the tree, the Romanian stayed firmly planted until Jan 27, 2019. She would win her second Grand Slam title at Wimbledon injury disrupted her career. She managed to soldier back and return to the top 10 but a doping suspension all but ended any hope of competing at the top of the sport. She retired in 2025 after losing in the opening round of her home event, the Transylvania Open.
